It is National Take A Shower with A Friend Day! I am NOT kidding. I heard it on the radio this morning on my way to work. Not only do I not have a Valentine, but I do not have a friend to take a shower with! Maybe because the two go hand-in-hand? And of course, they strategically plan National Take A Shower with A Friend Day so it falls before V-Day and then folks like me get the double whammy. No shower mates AND no valentine’s.

I went into school and stopped in a room with two young friends and closed the door behind me knowing the kids weren’t upstairs yet, but didn’t want to take a chance. I told my friends about Shower Day, the holiday, and I told them to go home, hop in the showers with their hubbies and say, “Happy National Take A Shower with A Friend Day.” I can’t even begin to describe their faces to you! I think they thought I was nuts, or spiking my coffee with Vodka. I thought it was a great idea. I left their room and went and told another friend MY age to do it with her hubby and she said, “No way, he’s sick!” But this is how I feel…if I can’t fun and you can…you BETTER! Take one for the team! Man oh man, if I had a friend that I could call and say…Wanna shower? I would be all over that!

I think it would be hysterical if I were married and things were the same day in and day out and to see the face of my spouse if I were to VERY randomly jump in the shower and say, “ Happy National Shower with A Friend Day.” Oh, your spouse would love it!!! Your spouse would love me for suggesting it to your mate, and maybe it would give that everyday relationship a little ‘Je ne sais quoi!’ As the French say, and a little bounce in your step, a little spark in your eye, a little vroom, vroom. A little…I know I am watching WAY TOO many sappy Hallmark movies. But come on…the romance, the impetuousness of it, the passion….Well, if I were all of you…I would do it!

Actually, I DID!

I called a couple guy “friends” and told them of the holiday today, but no one is calling me back! And truthfully, it really doesn’t matter because we had a water pipe burst at my building so the water is shut down for 24 hours. So, I couldn’t have a “friend” come shower with me anyway! Maybe my “friends” thought I was kidding. Maybe I was kidding. One lives on the West coast so it was going to be virtually impossible for him to get here in time to celebrate on the actual date. But I am not picky. I can shower again tomorrow! So, now I have no shower, no shower mate and no valentine! I am batting zero.

So, here is my advice to you…if you have a friend you can take a shower with….go jump in that shower and say, “Surprise! Happy National Take A Shower with A Friend Day!” You never know it could be the precursor to a REALLY Happy Valentine’s Day!
