My Valentine's Day Challenge
February 3, 2019
I HATE Valentine’s Day! I hate it because I am 49 years old and I have never had a good Valentine’s date. I haven’t even had a “good” Valentine’s Day kiss. EVER! Yes, there is a story behind that, but I will get to that later. I think most people I know think I am averse to love and romance. On one hand, I admit it. I am. On the other hand, not at all. So, I relish being single and the freedom to have jurisdiction over the remote control and that I don’t have to watch the animal killing shows on the Discovery channel or more football, basketball, and baseball in a week than should be consumed in a lifetime! But there are some things men offer that I do like…I’ll go into that more later as well.
The reason I am writing this is because my least favorite holiday is quickly approaching and so far, I am unphased by it. This is a miracle because I am also, I know I should not publicly admit this, but I am addicted to the Hallmark sappy movie channel. AND…the Valentine’s Day movies are beginning. Now, years ago when my heart was ripped out of my chest, blended and served back to me as pate, I could not stomach the romantic Valentine’s Day movies, but since I have had some love fumbles. (See, I have seen my fair share of football.) I can watch those over the top mushy movies and giggle and laugh. However, today there was a movie that struck a chord with me. It was a movie about a gal who also equally, justifiably detested Valentine’s Day or as I like to call it V-Day. Her boss was forcing her to write about the gut-wrenching holiday for two weeks until Valentine’s Day. The main character was repulsed, outraged and frustrated by having to do such a thing, but it made her appreciate the holiday and of course, she fell in love.
I’m not going to delude myself or you in the possibility of my finding love like a Hallmark movie, but instead, I want to appeal to people, who feel the same about the holiday as I do and I want to see if I can spend the next 11 days making you laugh! Making myself laugh as “that” holiday nears. So, here we go! Tune in tomorrow for Day 2.
